Just when you thought that your Miles Davis collection was complete, along comes this massive box set, exclusive to Amazon.com.
'Miles Davis: The Complete Columbia Album Collection' is a limited edition retrospective of the music that Miles Davis created during his 30 years with Columbia Records.
The box set comprises 70 CDs and contains all 52 of Miles Davis’ recordings for Columbia, each in a mini paper LP jacket that reproduces the original album sleeve (as popularized in Blue Note CD releases in Japan)
It comes with a 250-page full colour booklet with a biography, a fully annotated discography, a complete song index, and rare photos.
Perhaps the highlight is the appearance on DVD for the first time of 'Live in Europe ’67', performances in Stockholm and Karlsruhe during the Miles Davis Quintet’s European tour of 1967. This was the second great quintet, featuring Miles Davis with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams.
Also included for the first time on audio is the full performance from the 1970 Isle of Wight festival.
The bonus tracks that have been added to the CD reissues of individual albums in past years are included. In addition, there is previously unreleased material on 'In Paris Festival International De Jazz', 'Quiet Nights', 'At Plugged Nickel Chicago', and 'We Want Miles'.
The set is being advertised as a strictly limited edition with only one manufacturing run.

The problem with all such sets is the likelihood that many jazz listeners will already own much of this material, so central is Miles Davis' music to the greatest jazz of the past fifty years. And again, it is not cheap.
Yet, compared with purchasing each of these discs separately, the set is good value and has strong production values.
Ideal for that person you know who might be interested in Miles Davis' music and wanting to get into the full range of the man's work.
Tempting for everyone else.
